The DUNHILL MEDICAL TRUST

The Charitable Objects of The DUNHILL MEDICAL TRUST are:
the furtherance of medical knowledge and research and the dissemination of the results arising from the research
provision of medical care and facilities
research into the care of older people and
the provision of accommodation for older people.

Within these Objects The DUNHILL MEDICAL TRUST supports four main areas of activity:
the development of new and innovative projects
projects with a low public profile that have difficulty attracting funding
pump-priming projects that have the potential to develop and attract other sources of funding
developing research capacity within the medical, clinical and scientific community, particularly where this relates to issues of ageing and older people.

The DMT Annual REPORT AND ACCOUNTS disclose all grants made in the last financial year.
The Trustees of the DUNHILL MEDICAL TRUST have decided that the main priority for support will be research into ageing and older people and other activities which reflect the national demographic of an increasingly aged population.

All requests for funding are first appraised against criteria set out within DMT’s Grant Making Policy, to view click on GRANT MAKING POLICY

The DUNHILL MEDICAL TRUST make grants under two broad headings, RESEARCH GRANTS and GENERAL GRANTS.

White matter fibres in the brain form tracts along which water molecules tend to move. A ‘diffusion MRI’ technique allows researchers to map both where water molecules are located in the brain and in which direction they are preferentially moving.

Here a greyscale map shows where water molecules exhibit a strong directional preference, thus revealing the existance of the white matter tracts. Red lines overlaid onto this figure show the principal direction of water movement.

This technique is potentially very useful since white matter tracts are damaged in a variety of disorders, such as stroke and multiple sclerosis.
