WHAT DO WE FUND?
what do we fund?
The Charitable Objects of The DUNHILL MEDICAL TRUST are:
- the furtherance of medical knowledge and research and the dissemination of the results arising from the research
- provision of medical care and facilities
- research into the care of older people and
- the provision of accommodation for older people.
Within these Objects The DUNHILL MEDICAL TRUST supports four main areas of activity:
- the development of new and innovative projects
- support for pilot research studies that could establish whether major funding is justified
- pump-priming projects that have the potential to develop and attract other sources of funding
- developing research capacity within the medical, clinical and scientific community, particularly where this relates to issues of ageing and older people.
The DMT Annual REPORT AND ACCOUNTS disclose all grants made in the last financial year. The Trustees of the DUNHILL MEDICAL TRUST have decided that the main focus for support will be research into ageing and older people and other activities which reflect the national demographic of an increasingly aged population.

The DUNHILL MEDICAL TRUST make grants under two broad headings, RESEARCH GRANTS and GENERAL GRANTS.
RESEARCH GRANTS
All requests for research funding are appraised against criteria set out within DMT’s Research Funding Strategy, in addition to the basic criteria set out in the Grant Making Policy.

RESEARCH GRANTS take five forms:
- Project and programme grants
- Research related infrastructure costs (i.e. buildings or equipment for specific purposes)
- DMT Research Fellowships, which are awarded in partnership with Royal Colleges and other professional bodies.
- DMT Research Training Fellowships, which are intended to provide training opportunities for clinicians, health professionals and scientists who wish to pursue a research career in ageing, rehabilitation or palliative care.
- Serendipity Awards.

SERENDIPITY AWARDS have to satisfy different criteria. These AWARDS are intended to fund work to test an idea that comes from an unexpected clinical or laboratory observation, or from well-grounded practice, to obtain proof of concept.

GENERAL GRANTS
To qualify for consideration applications MUST be for an activity with a focus on older people. There are four categories of award.
- building grants
- equipment grants
- core costs/staffing grants
- small grants, usually under £10k
